| Our History |
MONFEMNET was founded in 2000 as a network of women’s organisations working towards human development and women’s rights in Mongolia. Since 2005, the network has undergone intensive reforms, and is now open to any civil society organisation that is committed to gender justice, human rights and freedoms, and democracy. |
|
| Our Vision |
A society that provides for every person’s equal right to live in dignity and freedom, without fear or oppression, develop his/her potential and determine his/her life-path in pursuit of happiness, regardless of gender, age, religion, partisan affiliation, ethnicity, geographic location, sexual orientation, social status, race and other categories. |
| |
| Our Beliefs |
- No society can become democratic and humane unless women’s human rights and freedoms, gender equality and equity are ensured. On the other hand, only a humane and democratic society can fully provide for women’s human rights and freedoms, gender equality and justice.
- Balanced, sustainable, and humane development is possible only in a society that has ensured women’s equal participation, has a strong civil society, and is based on democratic governance. Development is not to be measured exclusively by economic growth and level of income but by human development indicators such as broadening of opportunities and choices for individuals and empowering people to take control of their own lives.
- Human rights and freedoms, equity and equality of women, men, girls and boys cannot be achieved in an unjust gender system based on patriarchy. Therefore, to develop a just and humane gender system that ensures human rights and freedoms for all, it is imperative to deconstruct patriarchal attitudes, beliefs and structures that have permeated all – political, economic, social, and cultural - spheres of life.
- The development of a just gender system and a humane and compassionate society requires a fundamental change in all spheres of society, which can only be effected by a national movement that comprises all spheres of life, has a long-term strategic vision, and is based on decentralized organization, broad participation, and multi-faceted partnerships.
- Movement for societal transformation is a long-term process consisting of reforms in economic and political systems and policies as well as changes in attitudes, behavior and mentality that affect the fabric of everyday life and constitute, in the long run, a socio-cultural revolution.
- It is crucial to involve young people and children in this movement beginning today so that the younger generation grows to be more aware and respectful of gender justice, human rights and freedoms, civil rights and civic duties.
